Day 1 - Procedure and Weather

With hurricane Gustav spending monday kicking the ass of the gulf coast, there's no real news from the GOP convention. Laura Bush and Cindy McCain spoke briefly, but I only heard about that afterward. Some leftards, led by the idiot asschild Michael Moore, were blathering about how Gustav was a sign God hates Republicans or something. Don't really care.

The stupid-assed protestors were out for the minimalist session, turning violent and attacking delegates. Note to these brainless titblocks: You mindless fucking collection of clown shoes really do nothing but make the GOP look good by comparison. Simply put, there are no damned reasons for violence. And if you had the sense of a jizzmopper's squeegie you'd be joining the GOP in raising money and support for hurricane relief... with all your cut-and-paste with feces signs behind you. In other words, be humans.

And after a few nasty rumors about the true mother of governor Sarah Palin's youngest child surfaces, they were quickly snuffed when the news broke that her daughter (the alleged mother) is really pregnant, five months along, and planning to marry the father of the baby. Wow. Didn't see that coming. The Palin family, from what statements they've released, appears to be handling this well. Good for them.

But this might also turn into political gold. If I were her, I'd schedule time with Oprah Winfrey, despite Oprah's Obama leanings, and talk the whole thing out. Just a thought. If ever there was an event where the pro-life position could be addressed, this is it. Because I'm pretty certain, based on personal experience, that the abortion question was asked somewhere in their private discussions on this. That story would captivate in a way that no 'life begins at conception' platitude could.

No red meat today. When no one is speaking for the national audience, why would there be?

So this is the part of an otherwise empty post where I get all intellectually naked and controversial. First, let me put the disclaimer in: What will follow is merely ideas based on things that no one has control over. If we could control the weather and not have a hurricane barreling into the coast, we would do it.

However, given that Senator McCain has taken the sensible course and curtailed the convention during the time of crisis down in the gulf, he needs to realize that this is where he will shine. Just as Obama was in his element in the Barackopolis, McCain would be in his element doing what he can to help down in Louisiana, and phoning in his speech from there, rather than the traditional speech. Yeah, it's a little bit of milking tragedy for personal gain, but McCain can show leadership better by doing it. On the other hand, any speech he gives at the convention will, unfortunately, be compared to the unholy spectacle of the glorious acceptance at the Barackopolis. That's a recipe for looking realyy, really old.

From the land of moderation:

Shaw Hussein Kenawe has left a new comment on your post "The 2008 Convention II: Hey! We're Groovy Too!":

Regarding the news of Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy, I will be the first to agree that the children should be off limits on both sides of the aisle. But, My God, I’m fast getting tired of the expectation that the Democrats play by the rules when the Repubs continue to demonstrate their approach to a political election is worthy of Malcolm X, “By Any Means Necessary.”

I want to discuss the DOUBLE STANDARD - you know; the one where if Bristol Palin was Malia Obama, the media would be all over how Barack and Michelle Obama are incompetent parents who taught Malia loose morals. While I am happy that the Palin family is supporting Bristol, and they should, let’s not allow the waxing poetic of what warm family values this represents. Sarah Palin is a woman added to McCain’s ticket that points to her five children as a virtue of being pro-life; but what gives her the right to tell me what to do with my reproductive organs?

Yet, the fact that McCain’s choice for the VP ticket is carrying so much baggage, she would get charged to check them on American Airlines; the abject failure to vet this woman and select her over many more qualified female candidates like Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Christie Todd Whitman, Olympia Snowe, is speaking loudly to mock Affirmative Action concepts; the MSM spent all day this weekend waxing poetic on what a good choice Sarah Palin is. Dammit, if anything, if Cronkite and the late Tim Russert were on the scene, someone would be calling bullshyt on this choice and calling it loudly, and especially decrying McCain’s failure to pass a very important Commander-In-Chief test - who do you trust to be put in charge in case something happens to YOU?

First of all, Shaw, you really need to read the rules again. That having been said....

I want to discuss the DOUBLE STANDARD - you know; the one where if Bristol Palin was Malia Obama, the media would be all over how Barack and Michelle Obama are incompetent parents who taught Malia loose morals.

Okay, let's deal with the difference in coverage of the last three white house children: Chelsea Clinton and the Bush girls.

If I remember correctly, any coverage on Chelsea was seriously limited. I'm sure you'll cut and paste a joke or two over the eight years. However, the shenanigans of the Bush girls was covered in the tabloids regularly.

Of course, the difference there was that Barbara and Jenna were adults for most of that time and Chelsea was a child for the most part.

Now I don't know anybody that posts comments here that makes it their duty to chew the ass of the children or wives of the candidates UNLESS they are out on the stump saying things. I know that's my standard for posting anything, unless what I post is really funny.

The fact is that there are shitholes on both sides that regularly practice the art of oral bowel movements. You clean out your crap and I'll do my best to clean out mine.

The left will never understand being a Christian. They somehow think Christians think of themselves as perfect and therefore should never sin. Their problem with all of this is they know nobama is in deep trouble along with their socialist America.

By the way... my wife and I HAD to get married at 18 and we have been married for 27 years. Almost every friend we have is on their 2nd or 3rd marriage. Character and commitment is what it is about, not age. And Sara palin has character.
I'm for her 100 percent.

this is politics. It is like porn, dirty, vile, addicitive and you feel guilty when you look at on the internet.
and any party will do what it takes to win. each party has attack dogs to do the dirty work and it was been going on since our experiment was enacted. It will always happen when money is at stake and power is coveted. The democrats do not play nice. Neither do the republicans. do you really think when sideshow bob told bart not to mess with the republican party is was a joke? no it was a veiled attack from the left on the right. funny yes, but the subtleties were glaring

Saint: The jury is still out here on Sarah Palin. I have to wait to see if she discusses the situation, puts it in with her beliefs and principles, and gets it right.

I would say that you're lucky to have gotten it right the first time. Both my sister and I didn't. But what matters is how we deal with these challenges as they come.

Obob: You feel guilty looking at porn?

No good excuses for violence unless a country has vast amounts of oil reserves you mean.

Regarding coverage of 1st Children:

Chelsea didn't pass out at frat parties. Jenna Bush routinely made headlines but Barbara was rarely mentioned. If Jenna kept her nose clean, the media would have left her a lone like Chelsea and Barbara.

I agree with Shawn, if fact, what he is talking about is what angers me most about conservatives and REpublicans or hypocrites in general. I don't personally care if her daughter is a tramp and got knocked up at the age of 17, it doesn't offend me as I knew a lot of people growing up who were parents by the times they were 18. However, if she is going to be the conservative, morals, family values side of the ticket, I have to call bullshit. Its just more of the "Do as I say not as I do" mentality of the reich wingers.

no guilt in porn, just poltics. A good debate makes me frisky, but Hllary's video was a cockblocker.
and I would like to award medals to the herioc anarchists for attacking cub scouts and neo conservative windows. Or the pro-globalization trash cans. I did notice recycling bins went untouched as thier brothers and sisters in arms!
power to the people

I said I didn't care. It doesn't bother me that her daughter is knocked up other than if it were Obama's daughter we would never hear the end of it from Republicans.

I personally question a mother who would put her political aspirations ahead of her daughter, but as to the Democrats (not Obama because he has to look above it) who are so giddy with excitement at the plight of another just goes to show how childish politics has become today.

It's not about ideas anymore, it's about winning at all cost, by putting the other guy down as far as you can.

It's amazing to see the total lack of subtlety and the utter transparent sliminess of the Toadbat-Shaw Obama inspired smear machine.

How many times have I read one of them start a commenent with the disclaimer that they are not hear to smear Sarah Palin and then do just that.

Why are they so scared of Sarah Palin?

Shaw Kenawe said...

Mike, we are not "scared" of Sarah Palin. We are amazed at the recklessness of McCain's choice.

BTW: For all of Palin’s talk about fiscal conservatism and smaller government, Alaska’s state spending per capita, at $12,833, is by far the highest in the nation. (Compared to only $5,303 in Washington state.)

Obob: Don't get me started about the potestors. After another story about day 2's protests, I added Asshat Watch to the convention posts. Nothing of value, just a reason to rip these pisstwizzlers. Speaking of which....

Toad: You missed the memo. You don't rip into the children of candidates. I don't care who the child is. At most, the discussion is about issues raised by the story. Palin will be judged by how she handles the public aspects of the story and how it relates to her beliefs and positions.

Beth: What about a single father who went to Washington while raising a family? Would that be him putting his career ahead of his children?

Mike: Agree with you as much as I may, do you ever add anything other than just ripping Toad and Shaw?

Shaw: From what I've read about Palin and what I've guessed, you'll be surprised by her ability to rise to the occasion.

As for the numbers, I have also suspected she'll turn out to me a little more moderate on financial things than I like.

You thinking of running?

Oh I am scared of Palin. I am terrified to think that someone who was the mayor of an Alaskan Town of 8000 people could be one step away from the Whitehouse. I am scared that she was just issued her first passport last year. If eating mooseburgers and making babies and firing people who divorced your sister, was all it took to be qualified to be President I wouldn't be so worried.

I hope that clears it up for you.

Patrick M said...

Beth: I could, but I was actually seeing if you had different expectations for men and women. I was actually referring to Joe Biden. The point is that she knew what she was getting into. I'm assuming the family discussed this prior and everybody said go.

And it's not as though Palin could say, "Can it wait until I get my family life straight?" The VP slot is usually a 1-time shot.

Toad: Thanks for vomiting forth the talking points again.

The RNC has been prepping Ms. Palin for the last 6 days. They even wrote the speech weeks ago, it was reported, and had to "tweak" it to reflect that a woman is speaking it.

Yes. She will do a sparkling, bang-up, stupendous, jaw-dropping job of delivering someone else's speech. The convention will explode with joy and jubilation! Sarah will be crowned Queen of Mooseburgers! I guarantee it!

PS. Barack Obama not only delivers his speeches exceptionally well, but he actually writes them.

That's amazing.

Shaw, you've got to stop the incessant watching of MSNBC (Must Suck Now Barry's Cock). There's a difference between slant and propaganda.

Two points. First, every major speech from both parties gets an assload of rewrites. McCain's, Obamas, and every other. Discover reality, please.

Second, I heard Sarah's first speech. She can give a good speech without a teleprompter. Uh, I've, uh, noticed, that, um, Barack Obama really, um, can't, uh, do that.

That's above his pay scale, Patrick.

And to Toad, who is so afraid of Gov. Palin I wonder what in Obama gives you such confidence, and don't you find it sad that people keep comparing the GOP's Vice Presidential choice to your Presidential choice?
