The Sarah Blitz and Domestic Malfunctions

Today, Sarah Palin's book, Going Rogue, finally comes out, having already racked up bestseller status.  And as a consequence, the former governor (and victim of the McCain disaster) is out on the standard media blitz in support of a book that everybody was already talking about in either excessively glowing or horribly derisive terms.

On the plus, the people get a chance to rediscover Sarah Palin on terms other than under the gun of the hackocracy that goes ape shit during any presidential race.  Her first stop was Oprah (not surprisingly after considering what happens to books that appear there).

So it was with interest that I actually hunted down Oprah's show (as it has been years since I saw it).  The short verdict:  Oprah was fair, Sarah looked and sounded good, and every reason Oprah gave last fall for not having any candidate on her show (being she was supporting Obama) was well-explained, because this good interview could not have happened in the climate of partisan politics.

Unfortunately, there aren't too many good clips on YouTube yet and Oprah's site doesn't have embedding code (the bitch) and I still lack the technical know-how to construct the embedding myself. So here's a link to the non-aired clips. And below is the teaser vid for the show, had you somehow missed it all.

So there will be an assload of chances in various places to see Sarah Palin.  And unless you're wholly devoted to her or utterly jaded in your disgust with her, it's her first chance since the McDisaster to really talk about stuff.

Although I don't see her showing up on Letterman....

Okay, enough about Sarah, I came across this and I couldn't resist:

I think that last sentence would make more sense if it read like this:

"And unless you're wholly disgusted with her, or utterly insane over her..."

This woman's 15 minutes of fame feels more like a googol* of minutes of fame.

Can someone please tell her to go shoot a moose and dress a wolf in a field somewhere very, very far away?

* googol = ten to the hundredth = 1.0 × 10 100

I applaud her for doing something far too few politicians have any intention of ever doing and that is voluntarily giving up their position of power. No matter what unethical or immoral truth may confront them, they cling to that public office like it's their last breath. And so with respect to Palin that marks, for me, someone who can indeed be entrusted with such power and authority.

I still don't give her much credit on a host of other issues. She's a bailout queen too; an advocate of the "planned economy" ilk that pays lip service to free markets.

Sarah Palin is carving herself out a niche in the political spectrum as the candidate for the unhappy little guy...

She is going to be the "Harold Stassen" of the 21st Century....

She has absolutely no desire whatsoever to be President, and that no one can deny, but she will threaten, intimidate, and stir up shit from the front row seat she will always enjoy in the Republican Party...

She doesn't get what she wants and she will pull a "Ross Perot" and threaten a third party...

In other words she found herself a niche that can make her some big bucks and requires nothing but a facebook page to feed the loyal masses a little news...

A book a year and then one or two personal appearences a year...

She knows every four years she will be interviewed and questioned...

She was never sincere about having any ambitions and or a vision of the future...

Just a Joe the Plumber in heels...

Shaw: This woman's 15 minutes of fame feels more like a googol* of minutes of fame.

And I'll do my part to keep that fame alive, just for you. :)

Soapster: I think you've nailed why I'm one of the people not on the Palin bandwagon. I'm going to let her talk some more and see if she can convince me she's not too aligned with the McCain morons.

Tao: If it gets the party to remove its head from its collective ass (which resembles McCain's (ick)), then I'm glad she'll be around.

Toad: Did you say Palin was a victim of the McCain disaster?? I think McCain was a victim of the Palin disaster.

I'm trying to think of people who were ready to let the GOP burn in hell in 2008 that came back and voted for McCain just because of Sarah. I was one of them. Not enthusiastic, but a vote nonetheless. But a strong presidential candidate with something different then the Democrat candidate (in other words, not McDouche) might have won, or not needed Sarah Palin.

Palin was what secured McCain a good chunk of the base that despised him.

And do you know how many Independents McCain lost because of Palin? Only thing Palin did was fire up the most conservative part of the Republican base, you know, the ones who think Dinosaur bones were put on Earth by God to test our faith. Other people like Independents and moderate Republicans (like my dad) and Reagan Democrats all ran for the hills and she was the reason the Election was a land slide. Had Giuliani been on the ticket he would have lost the wackos but gained the Independents and Reagan Democrats.

That base would have never voted for a Democrat anyway. You know, Democrats believe in schools and science.

Uh, I don't fall in that category. Nor do most of the people I know in the blogosphere that sucked it up and voted for the assface because of Sarah Palin.

I'm also getting tired of you automatically characterizing all those of faith as fucking uneducated. There's a vast gulf between the majority of Christians (of which I am not, but I'm surrounded by) and the kookburgers. That would be the same as saying all atheists seek to turn America into a godless commie state. It's an uneducated and unitelligent mass assumption.

But either way, McCain was a fucking loser. So at worst, Sarah was a break even proposition. There was no one that was going to get McCain elected, and while I wouldn't have voted for Obama, I would have also not voted for McCain had he chosen a Lieberman or maybe even Giuliani.

Political races are not won by that percentage of "one the fence" people. Political races are won by turning out your base and getting them to the polls. The fact of the matter is that the conservative base of the Republican party knows full well that no matter how conservative a VP might in fact be, their conservativism does not have the effect of making the moderate presidential pick more conservative. In fact the opposite is true. The more conservative VP is surrounded by moderation and as such their beliefs and values are compromised.

McCain didn't lose because he lost the independents with Palin. And even if he did, he's to blame as it was his entourage which was tasked with molding Palin into who they wanted to present her as. What's more, McCain's moderation and the fact that he didn't represent anything contrary to the Bush status quo is what lost the election for him.

As a guest to the 2008 RNC convention, I had the opportunity to meet a hole host of delegates and alternates that confirm as much.

"But unlike McCain, she can see Russia from her house so she knows how to deal with Putin"

I see that Toad is confusing Tina Fey quotes with Sarah Palin quotes.

Toad also said: "You know, Democrats believe in schools and science."

Only if you count schools as a means to get make special interests rich at tne expense of education, and only if you count junk science.

Even then, you get situations like Michigan's governor Jennifer Granholm who is hellbent to gut state funding for schools, while ignoring the flagrant waste in the state budget. And she's a staunchly liberal Democrat.

I think she should rebuild her career and run for the Senate or something. Then she can actually do something while in that office.

Unlike certain others who accomplished little of any distinction and voted "present" way too much. I guess for some, actually having to do your job as legislator and make decisions on issues is "above the pay scale".

If anyone really believes the earth is 10k years old and humans used to hunt dinosaurs then you are uneducated. ok, you may have received an education but you just ignored most of it...Or the "education" came from homeschooling where your parents, who aren't teachers nor do they have teaching degrees, taught you about Jesus instead of science.

That much I will say but I don't say that all people who believe in God or are religious are stupid...Nor do I even really believe that someone believing in God is stupid because I have no proof he doesn't exist...But about the same amount of proof you have that he does.

Sarah Palin is a phony and a lie but people believed what they wanted to and projected a conservative icon on to her when she didn't really deserve that label. She did keep the bridge to nowhere money, she did prove that abstinence is bullshit, she did prove that her religious conservative upbringing failed to produce a child who didn't get knocked up before she was married or even in her 20s.

The only reason she was able to balance the state budget was because her states main revenue source came from oil which was selling at $150 per barrel while she was governor. You notice once oil fell below $70 she quit.

What she says she believes is one thing but its all bullshit because she doesn't walk the walk or at least when she tries to walk she stumbles and falls. She isn't smart, she isn't qualified, she has no experience on the world stage, she isn't well read, she doesn't know anything about anything. She is the typical American, TV watching moron who will believe anything she sees on Faux News.

It would be hard for even me to call someone who has served and sacrificed so much for this country a loser and Palin a winner.

Toad: You're almost as entertaining (and right) as someone who jerks off to the content of the Kos could be. When you can comment intelligently, I'll work up a more intelligent response.

Toad734 said...

So she didn't keep the bridge to nowhere money? She didn't quit once oil fell below $70? She doesn't believe the Earth is 10k years old? (she even goes to a witch doctor church),She is smart? Her base doesn't consist of walmart shoppers who home school their kids??

What do you not understand about that?

Patrick M said...

Toad: I understood it all. However, most of it lacks this thing called accuracy (and citations to boot).

Oh. Bill Maher was there, and you met him? Cool!

Toad734 said...

So she didn't keep the bridge to nowhere money?? Are you saying that isn't accurate? She didn't quit after oil revenues fell? Are you saying she is still governor of Alaska? Do you really need citations for that?? I don't get what the problem with these statements are.

Toad said: "when you know everything I am saying is the truth"

That's hardly the case. You only occasionally make valid points, and those are probably accidental. Like, you are entirely missing the boat in the auto discussion. Usually, it is like shooting fish in a barrel. You just make stuff up off the top of your head, and not only that, it is like you don't even give enough attention to making these fictions stand up to any scrutiny at all.

Patrick M said...

No, Toad, the bullshit tactic is flinging a laundry list of shit out there, some of which is factual (bridge to nowhere), but is mostly full of uninspired blater you've been repeating over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
