Crap That Doesn't Deserve a Post

With the weather gone all cold and shitty (as in I'd almost prefer a clear, snowy day compared to this depressing wet), and with so many important issues to beat into the ground next week, I figure I'd just cover some of the more idiotic and pointless things that trickle into the news. And while they are not newsworthy in and of themselves, it's our focus on things like this that are indicative of how far our culture has fallen from intelligence.

The Jon and Kate Debacle - I remember when I once watched the TLC show. It was cute and interesting. Then the tabloid shit began. I assumed that interest would wane and people would turn away from the pseudo-celebrity soon-to-be child abusers and the show would die. Yet every day, I see the bastards in my news feed (I take Fox News and CNN top story and politics feeds). Without even reading the articles (I refuse to on principle), I know daily what's happening with these children (and their kids). And the show doesn't die. Anyone with taste and decency and love for their children would have pulled the damned plug when pseudo-reality killed a relationship. But not today.

If anything was the definition of an attack on family values, it's this shit, not fictional programming. Because there are some things that should not be made a spectacle.

Update: As I was looking for another pointless thing in my feed to write about, God (and lawyers) intervened (sort of)!

Obama goes Olympic - First of all, getting the 2016 Olympics for Chicago would be a good thing for the city, state, region and country. And the POTUS has the power to lobby for it (that whole "leader of the free world" thing).

Having said that, with the White House dealing with multiple "crises" and working day and night to prepare for the next press conference (or Letterman appearance), is it anywhere in the job description of the President of the United States to be a booster for one city? Why he couldn't have sent just the first lady (also from Chicago) along with Biden (as that's kind of what the VP does; as well, the resulting video clip would be worth it) to do the job, along with a short taped statement? From a political angle, it's just another waste of political capital by the administration, which is a good thing in my world (especially if Chi-town doesn't score the games). But as an American, I expect my leader to do some actual leading of the country (even if it's in the wrong direction).

Update: Obama fails! Chicago is NOT getting the 2016 Olympics. While you're over there, you might as well stop in the Middle East and announce Peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Get a good streak of failures going before you come back to your domestic agenda (nightmare).

Filler portion of the post (as though you didn't expect it) - I'm pretty certain there are a few more people I know reading the blog now (as I'm networking it to Facebook (death to MySpace)) So for you noobs (as well as the old hats at annoying me), feel free to drop me an email if there's something you're dying to hear commented on. I'll definitely answer, may actually write a post (if I haven't already), and won't sign you up for any nasty mailing list (porn sites, spammers, the White House). The Email (if you somehow can't find it on the sidebar is patrickmspeaks@gmail.com.

And now, a clip to round out the lackadaisical post:

I want the Olympics to come here.

James: Despite my criticism, I was hoping for the same thing. However....

I'm surprised, I thought Obama had rock star status in Europe, what happened?

The USA has hosted a large number of summer and winter Olympics compared to many other nations so while it is disappointing, it really wasn't a big surprise that they chose another location.

Never watched the Jon and Kate House Of Horrors. Couldn't justify wasting 1/2 hour on self absorbed little toe rags who pimp their kids for fame and fortune. I'm glad that Jon pulled the plug even though it was for his own juvenile sadistic little game and not for the more noble reasons he insists he did it for.

Now, if they would fill that space with Welcome Back, Kotter reruns...

Beth,

The "rock star" status in Europe is something the Right talks about--that along with calling him "The One," and "Messiah."

The Left does not do this. Those are rightwing names applied to President Obama so that when something does not go well for him, they can shoot him down and say "I thought he was a rock star!"

Mr. Obama is the President of the United States--not a rock star. People need to mature and figure that out.

And good for President Obama for risking his political capital for the good of America.

Those who cheer the fact that Chicago lost out need to look into their very, very troubled, minority-status souls.

Beth: The best quote to address what happened: "The Ego has landed."

Rocky: There is so much good fictional programming and quality real programming that we should be able to never have to waste our time with these pseudo-reality shows EVER again.

Shaw: As I stated, I would have liked to see Chicago get it, and that is a disappointment.

And as for Obama's stinging and sad failure, I've had tme to think about this (and listen to most of Rush Limbaugh's first hour on that subject), and I have only one thing intelligent to say:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...is that an orgasm?

I worry about white guys who get off on what a black guy does....

Patrick, you need some serious dating experience soon...

Shaw, I was kidding.

I was actually hoping Chicago would get the Olympics since it is not too far a drive from here and I would have wanted to go to it.

Tao: First comment: Good point.

Second comment: I wish it was an orgasm. It would mean I got out on a date. Alas, it is only raucous laughter at something that is insignificant for the country, but a highlight of what happens when you Hope in one hand, crap in the other, and see which one fills up first.

As for the race comment, why are you bringing that up in the first place? Race has nothing to do with why I mock Obama's futile and pitiful efforts in failing to bring the Olympics here, and bringing it up makes me wonder why you'd sink to such a cheap tactic.

I'd rather go to Rio than Chicago, personally.
