Actions Speak Louder Than My Blog - First of all, in reference to my gas post from yesterday, I have decided to take it to the next level. I have emailed my post to my US Representative, Jim Jordan, as well as Senators George Voinovich and Sherrod Brown. Three congressman, two parties; one conservative, one moderate, one liberal. I'm just wondering if any of them has the balls to run with my wisdom.
And I'm encouraging anyone who wants to fire off about this to their congressmen to do so. I even give you express permission to cut and paste my whole blog if you want. This has to be a concerted effort, a military strategery, a total commitment for it to work. The cost of failure is a further slide into crippling gas prices and dependence on countries that hate us. Now, on to the rest.
McCain in the No Spin Zone - This is nothing overly special, as McCain has been on the O'Reilly Factor before. And it's the same old Senator PingPong McYop. In other words, he merely gave conservatives and liberals something in common: We don't like him. We don't want him to be President. The only difference is that the libs have Obama. Speaking of which: Buck up, Barry. It's time to show us you pack grapefruits.
Myanmar's junta and 100k Dead -The USA is always ready to help anytime there's a disaster. In this case it's Myanmar, AKA Burma. However, in the wake of a tropical cyclone that has devastated parts of that country, the ruling junta is sitting there, refusing to accept aid, except a few satellite shots, because it means letting warriors for freedom on their soil. Meanwhile, the people can only stack their dead like cordwood. Just makes you wonder....
Happy Conservatives, Sad Liberals -An interesting read for everyone. I'd rephrase it in terms of seeing opportunity versus seeing inequities.

I's A Bloggin' Machine - Out of a desire to get my writing back in gear, I've kicked yet another blog into action. As you know, in addition to this bastion of wisdom and enlightenment, there's my poetry blog, which I inaugurated to spotlight both my old poetry and some new stuff too. Now, I have a blog dedicated to my short story writing. In this case, it's a world I began creating back in 1997 or 1998. I ended up setting the stories in 1999. But there is no politics. Instead, I'm going to play with the characters until I get to the original story I wrote. So if you want to read fiction, rather than wallow in the pseudoreality shit the networks are churning out, the click here and enjoy.

Seriously. I read that report in the link, and I came away with the idea that as long as conservatives say "That's the way the cookie crumbles" when it comes to inequalities and socio-economic problems, conservatives will always be happy--"Hey! That's not my problem!"
We liberals tend to worry more about those things and want to make sure the playing field is equal so that everyone truly does have equality of opportunity.
In Massachusetts (as I believe in a lot of the 50 states), the public schools are supported by local property taxes. The very wealthy communities of Wellesley, Newton, Weston, and Dover have the very best of schools, and the poorer, and more rural schools, not so much. Therefore, children, through no fault of their own who grow up in poor or rural communities with fewer assets, get a poorer education. That is not equality of opportunity. And, I believe, it is wrong.
Just one example.

Also: Re your post on conserving energy. I walk everywhere I can to do my errands, and take public transportation when it is feasible to get from point A to point B.
I keep the lights off when I'm not in a room, and I practice the old Yankee adage: "Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without" when it comes to personal possessions.
I drove my last car for 18 years. I hated to part with it, but the old girl just pooped out on me. I bought a 5 year old used one in its place that gets 30 mpg on the highway.
There is much more I can do and your post has encouraged me to do so.
I remember reading a couple years ago Republicans have a more satifying sex life.
As for the Code Pink nutjobs. First you are mocked by the public. Then SNL. Then you use witchcraft? So these women are not Christian? Or are they mocking another belief and lifetstyle to pursue their goals?

Shaw: Actually, I had some more revelations why liberals are less happy than conservatives. It has to do with faith and such. I'm sure you'll take exception, but it's just an idea I had while listening to a lapsed Catholic and an agnostic talk about priests jerking off.
Otherwise, on the energy front, it's personal behavior that matters most. I am in total agreement, unless your primary motivation is global warming. But you seem smarter than that.
